Drinking the morning brew at work today; grabbed my Zion mug and went to the coffee pot. On the way, I realized I had some coffee funk in the bottom from yesterday's consumption. In fact, there were a few rings around the cup at various levels showing where I had let the cup sit a bit with said beverage inside; much like the various layers of rock strata in the Grand Canyon, you could potentially determine the age of the mug by the depth of the layer and its particular color...from the outside, you'd never guess how super gross the cup was.

Got me thinking about the passage where Jesus is speaking about the Pharisees and telling them they are like whitewashed tombs. On the outside, it looks clean and tidy and holy; inside, they are filled with all manner of sin and death and depravity. It is easy to live a certain way and portray the right image, looking squeaky clean and healthy, while the heart and inards of you are all black and rotty. The goal has got to be keeping the inside as clean as the outside looks...thanks Jesus for sending us the Spirit, to in faith, keep us clean on the inside.
