Farmer's Market Jesus Guy

So we are at the market this morning; right in front of Spaghetti Works is a guy on a stepstool. His shirt says Jesus Saves; his Bible has 'Holy Bible' in red tape on the outside. His words were something along the lines of "Religion does not save...there will be lots of religious people in hell...little old grandmas who were nice to everyone, they'll be there..." We walked by and I'm torn. Does that work? Do people respond? Is he there by the Spirit's guidance, and should we 'support' that? Are his words actually countering the effect that the gospel could have, were they presented in a different manner? As a believer, who on some level agrees with his assessment, should I feel embarassed/grieved/slightly put off that he is boldly proclaiming his belief, even though I would not choose to use the same method? My hope is that the gospel is advancing and that someone was touched positively; or at least that no one was turned away from Christ. Interesting things for a Saturday morning...
