We had the chance to go out for dinner last night with some friends. Went downtown, with the rest of Des Moines' for the day Irish population. Had an amazing dinner, and enjoyed some people watching. Very interesting...the kelly green and shamrocks were out in full force. It was as if, for one day, everyone was Irish -- someone had undertaken a huge mission to spread the love and convert everyone.
Struck me that the whole St. Patrick's Day deal centers around evangelism (loosely, at least). We 'celebrate' the coming of Christianity to Ireland; a young man, in love with Jesus, after being released from captivity to go home to England decides to go back to Ireland and share the love with his captors. Needless to say, Jesus infiltrated the masses and won hearts for the kingdom.
What if our churches could evangelize like we do for St. Patrick's Day? Imagine the impact...
