The Cross, ever before me...

I've long been captured by a little book called "The Practice of the Presence of God", by a monk named Brother Lawrence. He was a kitchen worker at the monestary, and his responsibility was doing dishes. A quote that struck me today was this:

"The time of business does not with me differ from the time of prayer. In the noise and clatter of the kitchen, while several persons are at the same time calling for different things, I possess God in as great tranquility as if I were on my knees at the blessed sacrament."

I love this -- he was so enraptured by faith, whatever he did was a form of communion. He knew that soapy hands and a drippy apron were every bit as holy as bread and wine at the rail. This is something I want so badly...moment by moment to be in communion and conversation with the Father. I pray this for my family, too -- that they might know that faith is lived and He is there in every experience of life, not just on Sundays or Wednesdays. I hope you can practice His presence today, wherever this finds you!
