I introduced my children to “Jesus Freak” by dc talk last night. I had the album when it was released 10+ years ago, and had purged it in a massive cd sell off I had. I did not miss it until I saw it performed on Saturday night at the show we went to; I was reminded just how good that song and record truly are. It was a riot driving down Hickman last night hearing my kids sing,
“What will people think when they hear that I’m a Jesus Freak?
What will people do when they find that it’s true?
I don’t really care when they label me a Jesus Freak.
There ain’t no disguisin’ the truth.”
How about it? It was a call to arms of sorts back in the day, basically a willingness to let the flag fly and not care quite so much what the world had to say about it. Our kids are a lot more likely to let that flag fly than we are as adults…let’s encourage them to do so without apologies. Maybe even push them a bit on it – if this is the real deal, then it has got to make us stand out. Maybe our faith ought to be a little bit freaky.
