The Messengers

Reading this morning about Zecheriah in the temple, the angel showing up and tell him that Elizabeth will be with child, and to name him John. The angel, Gabriel, was the one delivering the news. John reacts with fear, doubt, and eventual belief. John became a messenger, going before Jesus to prepare the way. The angel was a messenger, preparing the way for the coming of the Messiah, as it announced the news to both Mary and Joseph.

I like the messengers -- the ones who tell the story as it has been directed, who are delivering the news of good tidings and great joy. I love that we get to be messengers, too, delivering the good tidings and great joy that come with knowing Jesus.
