the beginning.
I spoke w/ PJohn last week about a little joint endeavor this Christmas season. The guys will be preaching through the book of Mark, starting this Advent season. I am going to do my best to write something daily focusing on the scriptures they'll preach on on Sundays, as well as the surrounding texts through the week. I think this could be interesting and kinda fun. So plan on a daily entry -- might be short, but something new from now until Christmas Day (at least).
For today -- We are going to be sitting in Mark for some time. Many think it was the first gospel written, and that Mark informed Matthew and Luke in their accounts of Jesus' life. Mark's is the shortest, and most to the point, if you will. He dispenses with many details that the others include, and gives you a very pointed picture of who Jesus was and what His mission was about. Mark is also the gospel I am least familiar with. Should be interesting, eh? I like that Mark is a to the point guy in his writing. Looking ahead at Advent (the season of preparation for the Savior to come), maybe we shouldn't beat around the bush. Get the point, yeah? It is about Jesus, about who He was, and why He came to be with us, God in the flesh, Emmanuel. That is something we all can get on board with -- this season, let's get to the point of the matter.
