thoughts...

i was praying and writing today in my time w/ Jesus. and i started writing out a confessional thing, slipping immediately into the "we confess that we are in bondage to sin..." almost by default and i started writing it all out. HELLO! fun to uncover the ways that we are in "bondage" to sin on a daily basis...the thing that struck me was that i've said that confession a hundred times over and it's meaningful, but not really -- i would say it, know that i've got sin to be forgiven, and move on. but when you stop and start naming the bondaging sin, and then think about the different ways you screw it up in thought, word, and deed...it really puts the sinfulness of the human heart in perspective. and shines a light on the greatness of our God to forgive me my sins and allow me to walk in the light of His mercy and grace today.

question: the confessional deal is liturgy - something that is taught and repeated in a traditional setting often (even each week). some in my generation rebel against that saying it loses meaning if it's said each week, that we are just going thru the motions...i'm wondering about the value of teaching these things to our kids even if it doesn't mean anything to them now, as it might blow thier minds down the road? try it yourself -- pray the lord's prayer, stopping to ponder what each part really means and how you personalize it. try the confession -- unless your day is rock-star good, buckle up. it can get a bit yucky in the beginning...what do you think?
