here we are now, entertain us...

5 points to the first one to name the song the title of today's post has in it's chorus...doug samuelson is excluded as he and i seem to share an odd ability to absorb trivial factoids. additional 5 for the band name...

so the song for this week is called 'we're creating monsters'. i'll email jonathan for permission to post lyrics as this song is a pretty challenging one...speaks to the idea that we dumb church down to appeal to more folks. hmmmm.........

so i've got a whole world of thoughts on this; i feel like a fence sitter and that's never comfortable. we had a great talk in our small group sunday on this issue and wondering how our kids will view church, what they will want in a worship experience when they get older, and if we'll jettison traditional stuff (apologies, but think 8 a.m. service sorts of deals) in the ever increasing desire to keep the masses engaged and entertained. and along those lines, as church goes ever more high tech, will we have to keep evolving there to keep the kids coming? i'm an odd ball in this whole thing as i kinda like it all -- let's mix it all up and use the best of both worlds and see what happens...might be somewhat how the redeemer/zion partnership thing looks in the fall...i don't know. but as a worker in the church, i ponder these things. will my kids like super traditional sorts of things cuz mom and dad always went to the 'contemporary' service? will it have to be even more contemporary for them to stay engaged? are we creating monsters by what we do/don't do in the worship setting?

food for thought...and remember this is a passionate issue. let's try to discuss via the posts and see where it goes...what do you hope for for your kids in this area?
