disconnections...

i love how the purpose of this little bloggy thing is to 'facilitate connections'...and i failed to connect w/ you all last week as i posted on wednesday and now it's tuesday and i'm posting to tell you i posted and will be posting tomorrow...much forgiveness i plead as i've been a tad busy of late (like you aren't!) w/ school, ministry, life, love, the pursuit...you get the idea! i'm thinking today about the post last week and a coffee i had w/ a friend this morning. he responded to an email i sent at christmas time about getting together to chat sunday afternoon. he had just gotten the message due to computer server issues...we hung out, it was great, etc. but why did it take so long to connect? because i chose the email as the medium for communication, sending the message into virtual world where it bopped around until sunday, we didn't talk for 3 months. connection? eventually...hmmmm....

so the song last week -- i wish i had a way to link to an audio file so you could hear it -- is about the movement of the church to ever more technological and modern forms of communication to facilitate a connection with the congregation. what if...like my lost email, the message doesn't arrive until much later? would we be better off just foregoing all the bells and whistles and just getting up, singing some songs and talking about God? personally, i like the bells and whistles -- it's fun to see where you can go and take people w/ the gifts of technology. but what about when they miss the mark, or don't work, or the delivery is delayed? does this make any sense?

so i'm curious for our kids -- what experience do we hope the kids have in terms of church? what do they want? have you asked them (if they are old enough? mine would like more snacks and cartoons, most likely).

tomorrow -- 'my apology'...
