Crazy...
The rush and crush of the season strikes me as a bit insane. All the chasing about, the buying, the push to have the 'perfect' Christmas. I think we all go a bit crazy during this time of year! With that in mind...
I was reading in Colossians this eve as Kari did some online shopping to finish up for this year's gifts. Something struck me as pretty profound. Colossians 1:19 talks about how the Father was please, it was His 'good pleasure' that the fullness of God would dwell in Jesus. All of that God-ness -- power, might, love, mercy, justice, righteousness -- all of it. In a human. Even more, in a baby.
That's just plain crazy!
Outlandish.
Foolish!
God in the flesh, as a tiny babe.
Helpless.
Dependent.
Innocent.
Vulnerable.
That BLOWS my mind. After 10 years of believing in Jesus, this still stops me in my tracks. How can it be? Why would God, who could snap His fingers and make everything ok, choose THIS route instead? Maybe the key is in the phrase, "it was His good pleasure"...do you suppose He gets a kick out of our minds being overwhelmed at the fullness of Him in the itty bitty package of the baby Jesus? It makes a spectacle of our human wisdom, that Eternity would come to us, as the best gift EVER, in the form of the most unintimidating, least fear inspiring, frankly, weakest thing imaginable?
Now that is crazy...and amazingly awesome.
What about God do you find to be the 'craziest' thing? What amazes you most?

I think it is the risks he takes that amaze me. He's willing to say "no" even though he knows it will potentially cause one weak in faith to turn away. He's willing to say "that one" in choosing the mother who gets the miscarriage, the stillborn or the terminally ill baby even though he knows she's might turn away forever. He's willing to let go of the terrorist, the abuser and the pedophile even though their victims might never again even wish to utter the word "Jesus." He selects the land that will get no rain and the country that will be governed by tyranny, knowing the people may forever blame him.
He knows the risks he's running, but he also knows that if any of these innocents choose to NOT turn away, and instead turn to him, even in their anger, hurt and suffering, and listen, they'll grow stronger, closer, more secure in their relationship with their creator and savior.
I just can't believe that the one who can move mountains to bring his people to him is not willing to remove their wills so that they might freely choose to love him despite their circumstances. How he must weep when they turn away. How he must dance when they turn toward him!
