Undoing
That is what seminary is all about -- the routine dismantling of what you know, and the slow reconstruction of what you thought you knew with new stuff added in. I love it. This week it Henri Nouwen, learning about ministry and spiritual formation and intimacy and all sorts of good stuff. The days are long in that they are free-flow discussion based around 5 books we read in the weeks leading up to our time on campus. I would recommend you pick a Nouwen book up sometime -- they will challenge you to be sure. A little taste of this week:
These are the two hands of faith: fiducia (a committing oneself to trust in the Lord) and assensus -- (the assenting to believe and say, 'Yes, I'll go!')
This is the sort of thing Henri spoke about -- the guy was a quote machine. I'll post more later...but for now, consider the hands of faith and how they 'work' in your life. Which one is dominant? Which one can you not even grip a pencil with? good stuff to think about.
