I am seeing some shifts all across the board in how we are doing ministry. Some really good things, some things that are allowing us to connect with kids that may not seem significant to us, but make a huge difference to them. Example: spent a few minutes (literally) ‘conversing’ via text message with one of our youth who Jesus is grabbing a hold of in a big way. Through 4 messages filled with phrases I had a hard time understanding, we ‘talked’ faith and gave some encouragement. He thanked me for taking the time to talk. Hmmmm….it blew my mind. We shared no vocal words; yet the willingness to respond to messages was viewed as investment. I’ve got questions, but the overall jist seems to be that in a world that is rushing more and more, these momentary connections are investments in the lives of our kids. What seems cheap and easy to us might well be the thing that makes a difference.
Lord, help me remember not to discount the potential validity of investment done this way, but rather to view each medium as a chance to give our kids Jesus.
