meaningless, meaningless...

I've been reading Ecclesiastes this week -- you know, "a time for..." and lots of comments along the lines of "meaningless...all is meaningless". Maybe that colors my following comments...

I make it a point to surf the headlines of various news outlets every day to get a taste of what is going on in the world. Here is a sampling...

Tuesday -- France is considering a ban on websites that promote unhealthy skinniness -- there are websites that advocate anorexic behavior in effort to look like certain supermodels...one example -- a website devoted to eating an apple, and ONLY an apple, a day.

Wednesday -- a long article on copper theft in the Twin Cities -- there is a huge need for precious metals in China, and gangs of theives are going into abandoned homes and stripping the copper out of them. Plumbing, copper electrical wire, you name it. Additionally, they carry weapons in case the police show up.

Today -- A teen killed in Bemidji, MN 30 years ago is reburied with his recently found skull -- the coroner felt a need to keep it, and they uncovered it in his belongings.

Current thought: MESSED UP.

Life here is what it is -- a bunch of screwed up people trying to navigate hostile waters and doing a poor job sometimes. I am so glad that in the chaos, God is there. Not preventing the hurts and breakdowns, but rather seeing us through them and giving us the strength to stand up in them. This is the world my babies will grow up in, yours too. My prayer for them today is that they will have the right map and compass to navigate these waters safely to a much better place that He's got prepared for those who love Him.
