I was there...
I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep,
when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.
Then I was constantly at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in humankind.
Wisdom, God's wisdom, is the "speaker" in this passage from Proverbs 8. Wisdom was present, instrumental in the composition of this world...these words are beautiful. They struck my heart today...God in His wisdom did all this. And He made us. From oldest to youngest, His wisdom was present when we were knit together, as we stumble through today, and He delights in us through it all.
Happy Wednesday.

Wisdom is personified here in this text. It probably is not just wisdom as we understand it--good judgment or whatever. For Jews it had a real metaphysical character rather than being just the wise thoughts and judgments of God.
How might we understand this passage in proverbs in relation to what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:16 and later in 1 Cor 8:6?
At the least, I think, it puts a definitive spin on how we might understand 'wisdom' in Proverbs.
