The Posture of Prayer...
Learing about Islam, ministry, and contextualization -- You'll have to look that up as I can't offer a good definition at the moment. In a recent conversation, we were speaking about prayer, and how posture reflects in some way the attitude of our heart. The point of praying face down for Muslims is to reflect a heart submitted to Allah...hmmmm...the professor mentioned that many times they are shocked at how "irreverent" some Christians are in prayer, as they slouch in their seats (that's me, btw!)...ton of bricks moment!
As I was leaving Sunday, we prayed as a family for the week and safe journey and such; I happened to be on my knees when we started to pray after kneeling down to hug Emy; then she and Kristyn both knelt while we prayed. It now is a touching thing to think of, 4 hours away...on some level, they were kneeling like Daddy (who did NOT do this intentionally), but what a cool thing. I believe that how we model our faith and practices will have everything to do with how our kids will do their stuff as well...a well worn Bible on Mommy's nightstand will set a great example for their own Bibles...calloused knees will serve as a visible reminder of where Daddy's heart lies in relation to Jesus.
I guess it's time to start working on those callouses.
