slip slidin' away...
couldn't resist the obvious quote...i'm in the office for a short time today; i figure i'm an iowa boy, we were made to go out foolishly in weather like this! what's a 1/2" of ice? me and team escort navigated the barren streets of des moines with little to no fear...i knew that i had some stuff to get done before the weather gets bad actually!
this week's advent theme centers around the scene of the break in of God physically in our world -- the candle is often called the bethlehem candle...makes me think of the places we find God present in our world. i know that the hush of saturday morning's ski adventure had me pondering His presence with me in that moment; the click of the ice on the window this morning did the same. now i look out of my office window and see snow falling (sweet, more skiing!) and feel His touch there as well. it's a pretty cool deal how the little things and the odd moments will remind me that He is close.
i took this picture a week or so ago at home; we were watching a christmas special and emy was obsessed with a charlie brown ornament we have on the tree. she kept going to look at it and talking about charlie brown and laughing; so i grabbed the camera and waited until she wasn't looking at me and captured the moment. something about the lights, the dark living room, her joy, and the smell of the candle burning on the table reminded me of His goodness and presence in the room with us that night. i can't image what it must have been like in the place He was born -- the light of the star, the smells of animals and hay, the sounds of angel's wings, the joy of mary and joseph, the awe of the shepherds...maybe His presence felt like it still does to us today.
