day 1

learning about preaching, wiped out after lecture...so then the discussion at bedtime focuses on john 3:16 - we read it to the kiddos, and then started talking about being born again with kristyn. interesting to try to put that concept in 7 year old terms...the gist ended up being that God goes on the inside, when we admit we need Him and desire to spend forever with Him, and wipes out all the gunk. then when our faith is put in Jesus, God doesn't see our junk anymore, but a new and clean person! and the upside is that we don't have to worry about not being with Him, but we are promised forever in heaven with Him. pretty cool discussion with my daughter, i must say!

theology is fun.

read: john 3:1-21

I wonder if it is present or past "gunk" that God does not see. The implications of God "not seeing" our present gunk can lead right down a slippery slope to sin and "cheap grace"--though it need not, but it can. I wonder if God wipes out and does not see our past gunk, but enables us through his Spirit to drastically limit the gunk in the present and future (Romans 6:1-14; 8:4-11). And how does the concept that we are "new creations...the old is gone, the new has come" (2 Cor 5:17) fit into this?

well said, my friend! i think it erases our present/past yuck, and demands that our future look different -- a changing our our clothing, so to speak, regarding how we live our lives. and that was part of the discussion last night...that when we are changed inside, our actions outside need to match up...
