cautious springtime blues.

art is so subjective, isn't it? a painting, song, poem can carry so many different ideas and meanings depending on the audience...i'm pretty sure i'll get no where near the intended meaning behind this song (jonathan, again, forgive me!) but here it goes...

as i listened to this song for the 3rd time this morning, i'm struck by the idea of death. funny how spring brings the promise of life, yet in the shadows of the impending season, the church focuses on the things that separate us from God and remind us of the finality of the end of our days. this song is a hopeful little song in that to me, the lyrics speak of the things we can look forward to in our eternity:

1) the stuff of the world -- money, items, fame, etc. are all 'guaranteed' in that they are taken and fulfilled and we won't have need for them anymore.

2) relationships -- our relationships willl be repaired and fulfilled and made 'perfect' in His perfect light and presence. the bad stuff, the yuck between us, won't matter in that should we all be followers of the Way, our focus will be on Him and not each other. harmony, baby.

3) our dreams -- my kids are so interested in heaven. i've spoken about this before, but they are way more excited about it than i am. but to daydream about it...we have a friend named mandy, who refers to heaven and what waits for us there as 'partytown'...when i daydream, heaven is a pretty rockin' place. good food, good friends, great music, the lighting will be pretty amazing...truly a dream better than we can imagine.

so...how about it? what do you hear when you listen to this song? how about your kids? if you can get them to stop dancing long enough to listen (a frequent occurance at our home)...
