Reading this week about the 'Psalms of Lament'...essentially psalms that express anger with God about something. These are psalms to do not often find their way into the everyday church service; the language can be rough, emotional, raw. Frequently, we find ourselves in church very stoic -- we revere God, we love Him, but emotion may not play much role in it. And, we then transfer this onto God Himself -- as a stoic, emotionless, transcendent being without feeling. The Bible paints a WILDLY different picture, but that is for another time. As for the lament psalms, here is an example:
Read Psalm 13.
Is this ok? Do you think we ought to be 'honest' with God -- asking why He does what He does, why He feels far away?
Is it healthy -- should we be able to express our emotions to Him? What are the consequences, for us and for our relationship with Him?
What role does this type of honesty play in our relationship with God?
If we are bold enough to speak like this to God, are we prepared to get a real, honest, emotional answer back?
sound off...

I think we should challenge god like this openly in public.
