prayers.

had a discussion a few weeks ago about prayer; how hard it is to do it, to remember to unless we need something, and how it's sometimes hard to teach our kids to pray. we tend to slip into our routine/rote prayers that sound the same each day, ask for the same things, and can become so automatic we don't think about what they mean. over the last week, we tried the 'acts' prayer with our kids. it's a pretty simply format; had to explain 'adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication' in a kid friendly way, but i gotta say it works! brady and kristyn have really grabbed onto the idea and the pattern it establishes when we pray -- they even ask to go first and offer up prayers on their own. i would suggest trying it with the kids at your home, if you've not already. it is a neat way to work in different ways we think of God in an understandable way for them...

a -- adoration -- something you think is really great, neat, super cool about God. something about Him you think is awesome.

c -- confession -- what do you think you need to say sorry for today?

t -- thanksgiving -- what do you want to say thank you to God for?

s -- supplication -- who, what, etc. would you like to ask God to help with? what would you like to give to Him today?
